1971

Where it All Started

Griffin Logging started in 1971 when Billy Griffin began cutting pulpwood with a single skidder and loader. His brothers—JL, Jerry, Gary, Ricky, Mike—joined in, each bringing their own equipment. What started as one man in the woods became a family-run crew built on grit, trust, and shared values.

1980s

Strength in Numbers

By the 1980s, the Griffin crew had grown into a full operation. Each brother had a role—skidders, loaders, trucks, or timber cutting. J.L. Griffin stepped into leadership, but every major decision and cost was still shared. It was more than a job. It was a family mission.

1992

Going Independent

In 1992, the Griffins made a bold move. They went fully independent and began operating under their own name: Griffin Logging. No more subcontracting or middlemen. It marked a turning point—proof they had built something strong enough to stand on its own.

1990s–2000s

Growing with Grit

Through the late ’90s and 2000s, the company expanded its reach. They upgraded equipment, built long-term relationships with mills and landowners, and earned a reputation for doing things the right way. The work stayed hard, the standards stayed high, and the crew kept showing up.

2010s

Passing the Torch

The next generation began stepping in. Sons, nephews, and younger family members learned the ropes. With new eyes and new ideas, they introduced technology, tightened safety practices, and brought fresh focus to landowner service. Still rooted in family, but built for the future.

2020

A New Chapter

In 2020, Drew Griffin and Justin Griffin bought out the business from J.L. Griffin—Justin’s father and Drew’s uncle. With the transition, Griffin Logging became Griffin Forest Management. Drew and Justin stepped in with respect for the legacy before them. They’ve built on that foundation by bringing in new technology, better equipment, improved safety practices, and smarter systems. These upgrades have made the operation more efficient, more sustainable, and better equipped to serve today’s landowners.
